Season…OVER

New York, New York, the city that never sleeps. Life is different in New York City. People strive to make the most money, eat the best food, and, most importantly, root for the best sports teams. Most athletes dream of playing for a New York team, specifically the New York Yankees. When you think of the Yankees, the first thing that comes to mind is that they are considered the most successful team in sports history, with 27 championships. It's unbelievable. So why haven’t we won in over 14 years? Why haven’t we even come close with the best hitter in baseball? So much is wrong with this team, and not many people are talking about it, so I will.
Here is a roster from 2009.

This roster won a championship. Notice how all our players have an OPS of over .750, with most over .800. This is the clear recipe for success. If you look at our current roster now, outside of Judge and Soto, we only have one player over .700, and that is Ben Rice. For a team with unlimited money, having 6 out of 9 players below .700 OPS is astonishing.
You cannot blame the players for how we managed to have six unplayable starters. Some Yankees fans will blame injuries, but you simply cannot. Stanton and Rizzo are no better than the rest of these guys. This is management's fault. Cashman has become "Cashlessman" with his spending, and Hal is simply not a good owner. It concerns me when the ownership seems to care more about George Costanza bobblehead night than winning. Nothing against George, but I'd rather score runs than own a ridiculous action figure with a big head.
Since 2017, nothing has changed. We are simply too old and do not spend the right money. This year will end in flames, and Soto will probably be a Met if things do not change—and they won’t change. We have managed to produce a lineup with only three players who can actually play baseball.
So, what could we do to save the season? Sadly, the answer is nothing. I want this team to be good so badly and have even thought of my own ways to save this season. But with holes at catcher, second base, shortstop, third base, and relief pitching, we are doomed. Not to mention, our starting pitching is starting to crumble as well. We need to make 3-4 massive moves at the deadline, and I doubt this will happen. At this point, I believe Judge will be the best Yankee ever...to never win a championship.
The outlook for next year is the only thing I am looking forward to. We must fire Cashman, re-sign Soto, and reset the entire roster. Despite having the best player in baseball, the future is grim.
