Well we have finally made it and football is officially back this week. That means it’s time to take a dive into this upcoming season for my Green Bay Packers.
Now I could tell you what’s actually going to happen and save us all some time. And that would be: we make the playoffs, beat the Cowboys and then lose to the Niners. Seems like the NFL has used that script for our season far too many times as of late, but let’s dive into how I see us getting to that point.
First let's break down the offense:
Aaron Jones is officially gone and Josh Jacobs is a Green Bay Packer. I love Aaron Jones for everything he did in a Packers uniform, but I like this move for the Pack. Jacobs is a bit younger and should provide a very solid replacement for Jones. When it comes to backup RB it has already been reported that AJ Dillon will head to IR with a neck injury leaving the backup spot up for grabs between Marshawn Lloyd and Emmanuel Wilson. I personally prefer Emmanuel Wilson over Lloyd at the moment just because of Wilson’s experience so far. However I wouldn’t be surprised to see both of them get fair chances at the RB2 spot.
Now on the receivers. Green Bay might have the deepest WR room in the league. Jayden Reed? DOG. Christian Watson? If his hammy stays healthy DOG. Dontavion Wicks? DOG. Romeo Doubs? DOG. And then they also have Bo Melton and Malik Heath too. This WR room is STACKED. And I cannot wait to see LaFleur scheme up plays for all these guys. You add Mushgrave and Kraft to the mix and you got a ton of weapons for Love to work with. Something I always say about the Davante Adams Packers is that they were too reliant on one guy. If you could take Adams out of the game you could shut them down. This current roster has so much depth that you can’t key on one guy. This also gives LaFleur the ability to cook which I absolutely love to watch.
The offensive line for the Packers was a clear focus in the draft as they took Jordan Morgan in the first round. He is known for his versatility and honestly I don’t have much to say regarding the offensive line. It seems like this organization knows what they are doing when it comes to offensive lineman and I trust them. They consistently invest draft capital on this position and have the depth they need to get through a full season. Offensive line, although won’t be a strength, should be solid.

Finally, JLOVE. I’m absolutely stoked to see what Jordan Love has up his sleeve this season. Would I be surprised to see him hit a bit of a slump now that there is more film on him? Absolutely not, it's very much possible. But the combination of him, with LaFleur’s ability to scheme and then all these weapons on offense is very exciting to say the leave. I think this offense can be special this year.
Moving over to the other side of the ball I think this defense will also take a step in the right direction this year.
I’m very excited to get Eric Stokes back at corner after he missed a bunch of time last year with injury. He is also in a contract year so I’m expecting him to ball out because of that. I really like the Javon Bullard pick as well and I think he will pair well with new free agent signing Xavier McKinney to form an elite secondary. Especially because I haven’t even mentioned the star of the secondary in Jaire Alexander.

I think this secondary could end up being one of the best in football when all is said and done. The Packers were also able to get a ton of production from Carrington Valentine and Corey Ballantine last year and I believe both will help provide depth for this secondary.
Although I hate his Alma mater, Rashan Gary is an absolute beast who I expect to have another good season and I really like Lukas Van Ness and Devonte Wyatt to take steps forward this year. Kenny Clark and Preston Smith should continue to lead the way for the Packers defense as well.
I will say linebacker is an area of concern for me at the moment and it should be interesting to see if Quay Walker can finally become what we thought he would become, or if Edgerrin Cooper can emerge as a rookie.
Finally, special teams will be an issue as it always is for us. I saw a tweet that said we replaced Aaron Rodgers more easily than we have replaced Mason Crosby and it’s crazy that it is true. I have no idea how the kicker situation will play itself out throughout the season, but let’s just hope Brayden Narveson can just come in and be solid.
Overall I see this team getting back to the playoffs and hopefully making a run this year because anything can happen once you get in. This team has the depth to withstand the gauntlet of an NFL season and although maybe not the best talent in the league they have a TON of guys that can contribute.
A Super Bowl would be amazing but man a win against the Eagles week 1 would do wonders for my ability to be annoying to my friends (who are all Eagles fans) for an entire season.
As an owner I hope we can provide Packers fans all over the world a reason to be happy this year.
GO PACK GO
