Moops Reviews: Most Hated Players on the PGA Tour

As the winds roll into Royal Troon this weekend for the final major of the 2024 season, I reminisce on another golf season behind us. Sure, there is more golf to be played; but I, like many avid golfers that can’t break 100, shed a tear after some random golfer whose name I didn’t know on Thursday rolls in their final put on 18 to end another major championship season. But it is not the champions or major collapses that I will walk away this season remembering most, it is those tour players that infuriate me so much, that they have forever etched their name in my long list of most hated athletes, my magnum opus. 

Let’s take a look at my top 5 for this season: 

5. Sahith Theegala

I don’t hate Sahith, I actually enjoyed his game and approach week after week this season. What I do hate is what he’s done to my draft kings balance. Every Sunday (or Thursday) I watch as Feebsgala wipes away all hope of a big pay day. Keep fighting Sahith I think you will earn both of us a lot of money next season. 

4. Hideki Matsuyama

I was lucky enough to go to my first tour event this past February at Riviera for the Genesis Open. I stepped on the course on Sunday with Xander, Willy Z, and Patrick Cant-lay atop the leaderboard. What looked to be a down-to-the-final-putt tournament crumbled at the hands of Matsuyama with a 62 on the final day. Hideki’s back nine included 6 birdies, with 3 of them coming on the final 3 holes. A boring 3 stroke victory at my first PGA Tour event cements Hideki and his nicotine-addicted caddie at my #4 spot. 

3. Talor Gooch

I mean is there anyone on the planet that actually likes this guy? The only comment worse than Bryson’s “Augusta plays like a par 67” has to be this idiot’s “The Masters this year should have an asterisk next to it due to my absence”. Sure, that’s not a word-for-word quote, but this isn’t NPR, and I will twist words to fit my narrative. My narrative here: this guy sucks. 

2. Zach Johnson

When I think of the biggest traitors in American history a few come to mind; Benedict Arnold, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, Jefferson Davis, and worst of all Zach Johnson. The captain of the 2023 American Ryder Cup Team should be tried for espionage and crimes against the homeland for his actions. Sure, I could blame those that actually played, but as I stated before, I’m here to set the narrative, not state the facts. Although the Ryder Cup is not apart of this season, the way Zach treated the pro-America patriots voicing their dismay at him at this year’s tour events is what gets him on my list. Permanently. 

1. Wyndham Clark 

The most recent season of Full Swing featured our #1 most hated tour player, taking a deep dive into the mind of the 2023 US Open Champion. Many of you may have grown fond of a man trying to erase his demons and fix his on-course antics. What I saw was a man with a vast amount of money hiring a living self-help book to not be an asshole. His comment earlier in the season that “the tour should drop down to 100 players” is utterly ridiculous. No one likes a guy that makes it to the top and pulls the ladder up with him. This may be written out of frustration because he’s currently 3 over on Thursday, so maybe this list is more fluid than I thought.
